Malahat Hikers![]()
With today's sunny forecast and good size beach, I made Malahat the call for anyone interested in the 60min hike. It has been a couple of years since I've been up there and, once we arrived at the old vehicle parking area, it was no longer recognizable. The new logging contractors have decimated the old forested creek path, making the last usually-easy hike up, the hardest part! After bush-whacking our way through the stumps, we finally arrived at launch, the ramp looking a little weary but still intact. Conditions were light-moderate with steady wind blowing in and everyone launched off well. There was lift to be found right near the ridge as well as a bit further out front and both Paul and David put in some good 360s on their virgin Malahat flights! Greg and I were last to go on tandem and we played around launch height for a bit, even having and a bald eagle join in below us, before heading over Highway #1 and then on to Bamberton Beach. Greg enjoyed some spirals over the ocean and he did very well to stick the fast landing. We all earned it today. Thanks to P.Mac for the pics!
