Adrenaline and Turbulence

Winner of the Prix D'Or at the 2009 Coupe Icare film festival.

An action film, an educational tool, a road movie and a story of personal triumph, Adrenaline and Turbulence is a movie that wears many hats.
Stumbling out of the backstreets of Budapest as schoolboys, Gábor Kézi and Pál Takáts fall in love with paragliding acrobatics and set off with the dream of becoming professional acro pilots. Heading to Spain and the secret training site of the Rodriguez brothers, the pair soon learn the necessary skills to climb to the highest step of the acro ladder. Candid, in depth, informative, inspiring and beautifully produced by Andras Kollman, Adrenaline and Turbulence is a stunning tribute to where determination and self-belief can take you.

As reviewed in the Sept/Oct edition of XCMag by Ed Ewing:

“Pál Takáts and Gábor Kézi’s acro film is a new classic. Refreshingly, it doesn’t feature any monologues about life lessons or living in the moment – it simply revels in the sheer fun of it all. And rather than just being a collection of whacky stunts it stands alongside the classic Never Ending Thermal as an engaging, intelligent, well-shot film that tells a proper story. It even has a good soundtrack.

“It’s also educational and informative. Not in a ‘now weightshift left’ way, although there is a bit of that in the extras (and it’s well done), but in framing the whole acro scene, from its roots in the early 1990s, to today, where pilots like Pál and Gábor can pick up the sport and within a few years be on the podium.

“It explains where the sport has come from, talks to the people who developed it, touches on acro’s slow, dangerous, two decades of development, and presents it as an accessible standalone discipline. All while showcasing some stunning flying in beautiful places…”

Book - Paragliding Training Manual

Originally written by Mike Meier, and first published in 1991, the Training Manual has sold more than ten thousand copies and has been a standard reference text for new paraglider pilots. Paragliding instructor Rob McKenzie of High Adventure Hang Gliding and Paragliding has characterized it as, “Probably about the simplest layout of the concepts of gliding flight ever written. A terrific reference book and training supplement for the beginner through intermediate pilot.”

While the Training Manual has been updated over the years to reflect changes in the sport, this new edition represents a major expansion in the scope and content of the manual. Wills Wing has brought on board paraglider pilots Mark Stucky and Tim Meehan (USHGA art director) to create a complete revision with an entirely new look, additional subject matter and new illustrations.
Newly covered subjects include specialized soaring topics such as convergence, dynamic, and microlift soaring techniques; speed-to-fly theory, and soar casting.

New chapters now cover towing, competition basics, and an introduction to paramotoring. The focus is on presenting technical subject matter in a manner that is easy for the average pilot to comprehend without the need for complex theory or equations.
The authors emphasize safety throughout with techniques for risk management and dealing with common emergency scenarios.

The companion DVD allows the pilot to see the specific techniques described in the manual actually being demonstrated, and to review the demonstrations as often as desired to enhance the learning process. The introductory section of the DVD is also a great way to introduce your friends and family to the great sport of paragliding.

DVD - Performance Flying

When it comes to making paragliding films, Jocky Sanderson doesn't pull any punches. The suave Englishman's slick production skills were first evidenced in his debut films, Security in Flight and Speed to Fly. Jocky's latest film, produced with Ozone's test team, hones in on the finer piloting skills of flying XC, Acro and SIV.

Indeed, Performance Flying is set to redefine what's possible in free flight cinematography. A high-speed laboratory camera has been employed to capture the clearest slow motion sequences of paragliding maneouvres in existence. On-board and air-to-air POV cameras get you right in close during loops, SATs, Helicopters and all the popular Acro maneouvres, plus the SIV essentials like Spin Recovery, symmetric tucks, twists and stalls.

Jocky is one of the world's most celebrated advanced instructors. In Performance Flying's XC section, the FAI Bronze Medalist will help you improve your thermalling, scratching, transitions and use of speed bar, and help you understand more about inversions, the second climb, what to do at base, flatland techniques, and lots more!

DVD - Groundhandling Techniques

From the team that created Paragliding: Learning to Fly, arguably the best educational flying DVD for new pilots currently available, comes an in-depth and up-to-date study of the challenging art of ground handling.

Why bother messing around on the ground when all you want to do is fly? Well, unfortunately poor ground handling skills account for a high percentage of the accidents we see today. Mastering your wing on the ground gives you the confidence to handle yourself on tricky launches in difficult conditions. The result is you’ll be a safer pilot who’ll fly more often that those who struggle to control their wings on the deck.

This DVD not only breaks down each exact aspect of launching and ground handling it also incorporates a series of exercises to hone your skills.
Ground Handling uses the same 3D animations that make Paragliding: Learning to Fly such a fantastic learning tool. Between the two DVD’s you have possibly the most comprehensive learning tools available to the new pilot today.
