Week of Nov 6 2010 - 5:00pm to Nov 13 2010 - 4:59pmThanks Mom!![]() Tandem Gift for UK Paul Back in the spring, Fernwood resident Paul received a birthday gift from his mother back in England for a tandem flight with us. It wasn't until a couple of weeks back that he was able to get his head above water after having his second child and go about trying to set up a day to head to the mountain. As this is typically the end of our active flying season, we took advantage of a promising-looking day and, together with Rick, made the drive to Duncan and then up Mt Prevost. West launch was borderline strong when we arrived but by the time we were set to launch the tandem, it had backed off enough for an easy launch and, afterwards, somewhat light ridge-soaring conditions. Video of Paul and I on tandem. Thanks Rick! Paul was totally game to maximize his flight time and so, after we'd made multiple passes at launch, we headed south towards the LZ to see what, if any, thermals we could find. Rick had taken to the air by this point and I knew he'd be keeping an eye on us and, as luck would have it, we hooked into one and climbed back up to launch height before eventually arriving over the landing field with enough height for some spirals. Paul really enjoyed his flight and I think he may have gotten some video for his Mom that I'll hopefully post here at some point. Rick got about 45mins in with some good thermalling/cloud surfing. We then ended the day with Matt's second excellent, no-wind training hill session!
